Organizations & Societies

The Catholic Women Organization (CWO) gathers the women of Mater Misericordiae in prayer, formation, and charitable service. Members support liturgical life, visit the sick, accompany families, and foster a sisterhood rooted in the Gospel.

Through monthly meetings, outreach, and devotion to Our Lady, CWO helps women grow as disciples and stewards of parish life. New members are always welcome — speak with the unit leadership or the parish office to join.

The Catholic Youth Organization is the youth apostolate of Mater Misericordiae — a home for teenagers and young adults to pray, learn, and serve. Through meetings, outreach, liturgy, and fellowship, members grow as missionary disciples in the Spiritan tradition of the parish.

Programmes include formation, sports and culture, and service to the wider community. Youth who wish to belong should attend a general meeting or contact the youth leadership through the parish office.

The Catholic Theatre Group uses drama, sketch, and staged presentation to teach the faith and to mark the liturgical year. Members prepare pieces for feast days, catechesis, and parish gatherings so that the Word may be seen as well as heard.

Rehearsals are announced in the bulletin. Anyone with a gift for acting, writing, costume, or stagecraft is invited to join and offer that talent for the mission of the parish.

Children Ministry accompanies boys and girls as they grow in the life of the Church — through Sunday gatherings, catechesis, play, and celebration of the liturgical seasons. Children learn to pray, to share, and to know that they belong fully to the parish family.

Parents are encouraged to enrol their children and to volunteer as catechists or helpers. Times and age groups are published in the bulletin and on the Church Calendar.

The Altar Servers Association trains children and youth to assist the priest at Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Through practice and formation, members learn the beauty of the liturgy, grow in reverence for the Eucharist, and serve the assembly with quiet dignity.

Rosters and training are coordinated with the sacristan and liturgy team. Young parishioners who have received First Holy Communion are especially invited to discern this ministry.

Mary Queen of All Hearts fosters total consecration to Jesus through Mary, in the spirit of St. Louis de Montfort. Members pray the Rosary, promote Marian devotion in the home, and encourage the parish to live under Our Lady’s queenship.

Meetings and novenas are announced seasonally. All who love the Blessed Virgin — especially families seeking to place their household under her care — are welcome.

The Blessed Iwene Tansi Society keeps alive the memory and intercession of Blessed Cyprian Michael Iwene Tansi, the Cistercian priest and first Nigerian to be beatified. Members seek holiness of life, promote his cause, and encourage vocations and fidelity to the Gospel in ordinary circumstances.

The society gathers for prayer on his feast and at other times announced in the bulletin. Parishioners who wish to walk in his humble, prayerful spirit are invited to belong.

The Block Rosary Crusade gathers children, youth, and families to pray the Holy Rosary in small neighbourhood groups. It plants Marian devotion close to the home and teaches the young to love Jesus and Mary through simple, faithful prayer.

Blocks meet according to local arrangement. Coordinators in each zone welcome new children and families who wish to host or join a Block Rosary.

CBIU is the parish biblical apostolate — a community of parishioners who study Sacred Scripture, share the Word, and grow in love of the Bible as the Church reads it. Members support lectio, formation talks, and a culture of listening to God in His Word.

Sessions are announced in the bulletin. Anyone hungry for Scripture — beginners and seasoned readers alike — is welcome to take a seat at the table of the Word.

Security Volunteers serve the parish by watching over the church, parking, processions, and large gatherings so that worship may unfold in peace. Members work quietly, with courtesy, and in coordination with parish leadership.

This is a ministry of hospitality as much as vigilance. Men and women of discretion who can serve on a roster should speak with the security coordinators or the parish office.

The Guild of St. Anthony honours the Franciscan preacher and wonder-worker. Members invoke his intercession, support works of charity, and keep his feast with prayer and almsgiving.

The guild meets as announced, especially around 13 June. Parishioners who have known St. Anthony’s help — or who wish to serve the poor in his spirit — are invited to enrol.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul serves the poor with discretion and love. Conference members visit families, respond to appeals for assistance, and organize parish charity in the spirit of St. Vincent — seeing Christ in those who suffer.

Meetings and home visits are arranged confidentially with the parish office. Those who wish to serve, or families in need of accompaniment, should make contact through the rectory.

Named for St. Ambrose, great preacher and doctor of the Church, this ministry forms lectors who proclaim the Sacred Scriptures at Mass. Through prayerful preparation and training, readers serve the liturgy by speaking God’s Word clearly and reverently.

Rosters and formation are coordinated with the liturgy / worship leaders. Baptized parishioners with a clear voice and a love of Scripture are encouraged to offer themselves for this service.

The St. Jude Thadeus Society fosters trust in the apostle known as the patron of hopeless causes. Members pray for those in distress, keep his feast, and encourage perseverance when situations seem beyond human help.

Novena prayers and society gatherings are announced in the bulletin. All who carry heavy intentions — and all who will pray for others — have a place here.

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal invites parishioners into deeper prayer, Scripture, and praise. Through prayer meetings and formation, members seek a living awareness of the Holy Spirit and a renewal of baptismal grace in the heart of the Church.

Prayer meetings are announced in the parish bulletin. Come as you are — the Spirit gathers a people of every age to worship in spirit and in truth.

The Catechetical Group forms and supports those who teach the faith — for First Holy Communion, Confirmation, RCIA, and ongoing Christian formation. Members prepare lessons, accompany candidates, and work with the parish catechists.

Training and class calendars follow the sacramental year. Parishioners with a gift for teaching, patience, and love of the Catechism are invited to serve.

The Divine Mercy Group fosters devotion to the Merciful Jesus through the Chaplet, the Hour of Mercy, and the message entrusted to St. Faustina. Members encourage trust in God’s mercy and extend that mercy to others in daily life — a fitting apostolate in a parish named Mater Misericordiae.

Chaplet and devotion times are announced seasonally and around Divine Mercy Sunday. All who wish to pray “Jesus, I trust in You” with the parish are welcome.

The Infant Jesus Society nurtures devotion to the Holy Child and accompanies the youngest members of the parish in prayer and celebration. Members promote childlike trust, care for children in need, and keep the feast of the Infant Jesus with joy.

Activities are often shared with Children Ministry. Families and devotees of the Holy Child are invited to take part.

The League of the Sacred Heart of Jesus promotes devotion to the Heart of Christ — First Fridays, enthronement in the home, and a spirit of reparation and charity. Members pray that every family of the parish may know they are loved from the Heart of Jesus.

League gatherings and First Friday observances are announced with the liturgy schedule. Homes wishing to enthrone the Sacred Heart may request accompaniment through the parish office.

The Mater Media Team serves the parish through photography, livestream support, social media, and other digital communications. Members help the community see its own worship, celebrations, and works of mercy — and they carry that witness beyond the church walls.

Training is practical and on the roster. Parishioners skilled with a camera, editing, or online communication, and willing to serve discreetly at liturgy, should contact the team through the parish office.

Ministers of Hospitality are the first smile many people meet at Mater Misericordiae. Ushers greet worshippers, assist with seating and collections, help visitors find their way, and watch over the order of the assembly so that all may pray in peace.

This ministry is open to men and women of courtesy and punctuality. Training is brief; the commitment is a regular Mass roster. Speak with the hospitality coordinators to be added.

The St. Cecilia Choir leads the assembly in song at Mass and on feast days, under the patronage of the martyr and patroness of musicians. Members rehearse regularly, learn liturgical repertoire, and offer their voices as a ministry of praise.

Practices are announced by the choir directors. Singers and instrumentalists who can commit to rehearsal and Sunday liturgy are warmly invited to audition or simply come and sing.

The Family & Human Life Commission promotes the Church’s teaching on marriage, parenthood, and the sanctity of life. Members organize formation for couples and families, support those in difficulty, and witness to a culture of life in the parish and wider community.

Programmes follow the pastoral year and may include talks, counselling referrals, and pro-life prayer. Couples, parents, and all who will stand for the family are invited to serve.

Man of Order & Discipline gathers men of the parish who wish to grow in self-mastery, punctuality, and responsible Christian manhood. Members support order at parish events, encourage one another in virtue, and place their strength at the service of liturgy and community life.

Meetings and duties are announced by the coordinators. Men who desire a clear rule of life and a band of brothers in the parish will find a home here.

The Mother of Perpetual Help group keeps the beloved icon and novena at the heart of parish prayer. Members promote the Wednesday devotion, pray for urgent intentions, and remind the community that Mary never ceases to help those who turn to her Son.

Novena prayers follow the parish custom, often midweek. All who carry needs too heavy to name — and all who will pray for them — are welcome at her icon.
