Anointing of the Sick
The Anointing of the Sick strengthens those who are seriously ill, weakened by age, or preparing for significant surgery. A priest anoints with the Oil of the Sick and prays for healing of body and soul. Communal celebrations are announced seasonally; individual anointing is available upon request at home or in hospital.

Requirements
What you will typically need before Anointing of the Sick at Mater Misericordiae. The parish office will confirm details for your situation.
- The sacrament is for those seriously ill, notably weakened by age, or about to undergo serious surgery — not only for the dying.
- The person should ideally be baptised; if conscious, they may also receive Confession and Holy Communion (Viaticum when near death).
- Family members may request the sacrament on behalf of a loved one who cannot call.
- Provide the patient’s location (home, hospital, ward) and a contact number for the visiting priest.
- In emergencies, call a priest immediately — do not wait for office hours.
