About this sacrament
Holy Communion
The Eucharist is the source and summit of Christian life. Children preparing for First Holy Communion receive catechesis through the Children Ministry and parish catechists; adults who have not yet received First Communion are welcome to begin preparation with the pastoral team.
When it is celebrated
First Holy Communion: annually, usually in May or June. Enrolment opens each pastoral year.

Requirements
What you will typically need before Holy Communion at Mater Misericordiae. The parish office will confirm details for your situation.
- The child should already be baptised in the Catholic Church (baptism certificate required).
- Regular participation in Sunday Mass with the family.
- Enrolment in the parish First Communion catechesis programme for the year.
- Parents or guardians support home prayer and attendance at formation sessions.
- A period of sacramental preparation culminating in First Confession before First Communion.
