About this sacrament
Baptism
Baptism cleanses original sin, incorporates us into Christ and His Church, and begins a life of grace. At Mater Misericordiae, infant baptisms are celebrated regularly after preparation; adults seeking Baptism are accompanied through the RCIA / adult initiation pathway with the pastoral team.
When it is celebrated
Infant baptisms: typically the second Saturday of the month. Adult initiation: by appointment with the parish priests.

Requirements
What you will typically need before Baptism at Mater Misericordiae. The parish office will confirm details for your situation.
- At least one parent (or guardian) should be a practising Catholic and commit to raising the child in the faith.
- Parents and godparents attend the baptism preparation class before the celebration.
- Godparents must be confirmed Catholics in good standing (at least one Catholic godparent is required).
- Bring the child’s birth certificate (or equivalent) when registering at the parish office.
- If you are not a registered parishioner, a letter of permission from your home parish may be requested.
